জাতীয় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে এম. ফিল বা পিএইচডি প্রোগ্রাম কর্মসূচি/ M. Phil./Ph.D.Programme Unit

With a view to enhance the standard of education by improving the quality of teachers in the affiliated colleges, National University has introduced M.Phil. and Ph.D. Programme. In 2006, 77 research fellows enrolled for M.Phil. programme and 55 research fellows enrolled for Ph.D. programme in different disciplines. This programme has opened a new avenue of advanced study especially for the college teachers teaching at graduation and post graduation level throughout the country.

The executive authority of conducting M.Phil./Ph.D. programme is the Board of Advanced Studies which is chaired by the vice-Chancellor of the University.

However, the programme runs under the direct supervision of Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Universty. Five Academic Groups are formed to have better coordination and smooth functioning of the programmes. Each Academic Group has its own office headed by a Chairman appointed by the Vice-Chancellor from among the teachers of the related disciplines of a group. The office of the Academic Group renders academic and administrative support to the research fellows of the member disciplines of the Group. শিক্ষার মান উন্নয়নের সাথে সাথে শিক্ষকদের যোগ্যতা ও দক্ষতা বৃদ্ধির লক্ষ্যে জাতীয় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অধিনে মাস্টার্স ডিগ্রী ও পিএইচডি প্রোগ্রাম চালু করা হয়েছে। ২০০৬ সালে থেকে বিভিন্ন বিষয়ে ৭৭টি এম ফিল প্রোগ্রাম ও ৫৫টি গবেষণা বিষয়ের উপর পিএইচডি প্রোগ্রাম চালু হয়েছে। উন্নত গবেষণা ও নতুন দ্বার উন্মোচনে দেশের যেকোনো স্নাতক ও স্নাতকোত্তর ডিগ্রী অর্জনকারী শিক্ষকরা এই প্রোগ্রামের আওতায় অন্তভুক্ত হতে পারবেন। এম ফিল বা পিএইচ ডি প্রোগ্রামের কর্তৃত্ব রাখেন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়েল ভাইস-চ্যান্সেলর, তার অধিনে উচ্চ শিক্ষার কলকাঠি নিহিত। তবে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রো ভাইস-চ্যান্সেলর এ বিষয়ে সরাসরি তত্ত্বাবধান চালায়। পাঁচটি একাডেমিক গ্রুপ এ ব্যাপারে ভালো সমন্বয় করে এবং এ প্রোগ্রামকে চালিয়ে নিতে নানান দিক নির্দেশন করেন। এ জন্য প্রতিটি একাডেমিক গ্রুপের নিজস্ব অফিস আছে, ভাইস-চ্যান্সেলর কর্তৃক মনোনীত কাজ একজন চেয়ারম্যানের নেতৃত্বে ডিসিপ্লিন শিক্ষকদের মধ্যে সম্পাদিত হয়। নিচের ছকে একাডেমিক গ্রুপের এবং তাদের সঙ্গে যে সব বিষয়ে সম্পৃক্ত তা দেয়া হলো:

Eligibility for Admission and Fellowship

The programme starts in January and generally advertisement for admission is circulated during September-November. Persons below 40 years of age and having excellent result in Graduation and Post Graduation degrees can apply for this programme. However, only teachers of the affiliated colleges are eligible for getting fellowship.

Duration of the Programme

The duration for M.Phil. degree is 2 years, which includes one year course work at the beginning and dissertation work at the end. The duration for Ph.D. degree is 3 years. Candidates having M.Phil./ M.S. degree are eligible to be enrolled in Ph. D. course and they are exempted from undergoing coursework. But, Ph. D. fellows who do not have M.Phil./M.S. degree must complete a one year course work at the beginning.

Coursework and Thesis Supervision

The coursework is of one year duration and the research fellows are required to appear at an examination of 300 marks (written-200 and viva voce-100) at the end of the year. Successful candidates are allowed to go for dissertation work. Senior faculty members of National University and scholars from other public universities and research institutions act as resource persons for coursework and for supervision of dissertation work. Research fellows have the liberty to choose supervisor for their research work from public universities and research institutions approved by the National University.
